Sun Inn, Rhewl

The Sun Inn is located in Rhewl which lies west of Llangollen and is an old coaching inn, reputedly dating back to the 14th century but more probably of 17th century date.    Drovers drank at the inn and only the wealthy passengers were able to stay in the one available room.  The coachmen and others slept in the outhouse and the coach kept where the car park is today.  Inns like the Sun were a welcome site for the drovers as they offered food and shelter for themselves and secure pens for the animals.

One of the oldest coaching inns still open and around 1948 the landlord A.C.  Coulter was forced into removing the slate mounting stones from the corner of the inn as there were concerns in obstructing traffic.  The steps had been used by horsemen to dismount.

Since 2010 the Sun Inn have been fighting closure.
