Blue Anchor, East Aberthaw

The Blue Anchor is probably one of oldest pubs in Wales with the building dating back to the 1380s.  At one time Aberthaw was a thriving port, more important than Cardiff and Barry, and name of pub derives from this time.  Has thatched roof with stone walls and wooden beams and would have been at one time a home for a substancial yeoman farmer
Fire closed the inn in 2004, the first time it had seized trading since1380.  No mean achievement!
Up until 1941 the Blue Anchor was part of the Fonmon estate but since the inn has been run by the Coleman family.
Popular with film shoots and over the years the Blue Anchor has featured in various TV series including a ‘Killer Elite’ a major Hollywood blockbuster.
Log fires lit during the cold winter months.
Real ale establishment offering good choice of ales.  Restaurant located upstairs.
