The Otley Arms, Treforest

The Otley Arms was built in 1860 and formerly known as the Forest Comercial Inn located in Treforest near Pontypridd and conveniently situated close to the A470, railway station and the Universtiy of Glamorgan. 

The Mount Pleasant Inn, Hirwaun

The family run Mount Pleasant Inn located close to Hirwaun is steeped in history and has undergone extensive refurbishment in the last few years. 
The inn is known locally as ‘The Black’  owing to its historical links with the Black Lion Sidings which at one time controlled coal leaving Merthyr Vale Colliery.
During the 1860s stock auctions were held at Castell Coryn which was located close to the Mount Pleasant Inn.  Refreshment was taken prior and after these auctions. 

Stag Inn, Trecynon

The Stag Inn was located in Trecynon in the Cynon valley some three quarters of a mile from Llwydcoed station and a mile from the Taff Vale railway station in Aberdare.   
It was the site of many an important auction of draught horses during the mid 19th century as seen on various posters:

The Brynffynnon Arms, Llanwonno

Mae’r Brynffynnon Arms wedi’i lleoli ym mhentref fechan Llanwynno ger Cymoedd y Rhondda a Chwm Cynon a fu unwaith yn gartrefi i’r diwydiant glo.  Adeilad sy’n dyddio i’r ail ganrif ar bymtheg a fu unwaith yn dafarn fechan i’r glowyr.  Gyda dyfodiad perchnogion newydd yn 2008 gwelodd y Brynffynnon gryn dipyn o newid ond chollodd hi ddim o’i chymeriad.

Ceir dewis eang o gwrw a seidr traddodiadol ac ers 2010 mae wedi’i chynnwys yn y Good Beer Guide gan CAMRA.

Cardiff Arms, Hirwaun

Bu unwaith yn dafarn y goets a fe adeiladwyd y Cardiff Arms ym 1793 ar y sgwâr yn Hirwaun, Cwm Cynon.  Bu ar gau am gyfnod ond ar ôl cryn dipyn o waith adnewyddu, ail agorodd y Cardiff Arms ym Mawrth 2008.  Mae naws hyfryd y tu mewn gyda bar o dderi noeth a chadeiriau lledr cyfforddus.

Lle poblogaidd â’r sawl sy’n hoffi cerddoriaeth gyda chanu byw bob nos Wener.  Mae’r artisiaid yn amrywio o bobl lleol i rhai sydd wedi’u harwyddo gan Sony BMG.

A busy and spacious traditional public house located in the heart of Treorchy.  Refurbished in 2011 and offering a centre for community events.

Market Tavern, Aberdare

Formerly known as the Cowbridge and built during the 1850s.

Closed in 2010 but thankfully Rhondda Cynon Taf refurbished the Tavern to the tune of £73,000 as part of its regeneration project and the historic Grade II watering hole was reopened in 2012.  Extensive interior and exterior work was carried out on the Hotel allowing the original features to remain intact.  Interior work included replacing customer toilets, kitchen fittings and resurfacing rear yard of the Tavern.

 

Tŷ Newydd, Llanharry

The Tŷ Newydd was an impressive building in the village of Llanharry and stood opposite the Bear inn.  Originally was a late 17th century yeoman’s dwelling and was much restored in the 19th century.  Pub demolished for development in 1974.

Windsor Hotel, Pontyclun

Both the Windsor and the Bute Hotel were built around 1870 as a direct result of the construction of the South Wales railway.  It remains an imposing building in the heart of Pontyclun.
