Yr Hen Lew Du, Aberystwyth

Aberystwyth’s second oldest public house dating from the 14th century.  Has been called the Old Black Lion since at least 1771.  Back in 1875 the landlady was a certain Margaret Thomas.

In the early 19th century stagecoaches left the Black every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays at 4am and returned at 9pm on the same evening.

Popular with locals and students alike.
